MESSAGE FROM DOWN UNDER

Thanks to this website a descendant of Fred Balmer,now living in New Zealand, has contacted us. On retiring from Appleby Fire Brigade he was presented with an inscribed silver cigarette case, “PRESENTED TO LIEUTENANT F T BALMER BY THE APPLEBY FIRE BRIGADE 1933 ” His grand daughter has generously offered to present this to the Society; we were pleased to give her a copy of the book about John Rigg and the Appleby Firemen although it doesn’t cover Fred’s time in the Brigade.
